So I decided to post it here. This time it\u2019s called Third Rock.<\/p>\n<p>This project starts after step 4 of the &#8220;Sliced Rock Dangles&#8221; project is complete. We now have a set of 3 open rock parts, which are the top, middle and bottom of a rock.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1168\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-01a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-01a.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"415\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1168\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>5. Create three such sets, from silver, copper, and bronze clay respectively. (All of the photos in this posting show the copper rock, except for the photo of the finished earrings, which shows all three metals.)<\/p>\n<p>6. For each of these sets, lay the open side of all three rock parts on a layer of the same clay, 3 cards thick. (In other words, the three silver parts should be laid on a silver layer, the copper parts on a copper layer, and the bronze parts on a bronze layer.)<br \/>\n<span class=\"frame-outer  aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1169\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"671\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1169\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>7. Cut away the excess clay from around the thirds, and dry.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1170\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-03.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"468\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1170\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>8. The two end parts of each rock are now closed hollow forms. Now close each of the middle parts by placing it upside-down on another layer of the same clay (silver on silver, copper on copper, bronze on bronze), 3 cards thick.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1171\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-04.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"505\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1171\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>9. Cut away the excess clay from around the part.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1173\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-05.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"357\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1173\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>All three parts in each set are now closed.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1174\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-06.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"214\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1174\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>10. Drill 2 holes through one of the end pieces. Repeat this step with the rest of the end pieces.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1175\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-07.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"287\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1175\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>11. Drill 2 holes through the sides of all three middle pieces (silver, bronze, and copper).<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1176\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-08.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"295\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1176\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This is how the parts can be assembled.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1177\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-09.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"199\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1177\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The necklace version shown at the top of this posting was assembled using beading wire and spacers.
