Since they were asked several times, I am answering them here.<\/p>\n<p><em>1.  Is it possible to make this project with copper and silver?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>First, it is possible, but not in the way that this project is described in my book. Copper and silver don&#8217;t stick together. They will separate after firing. They have to be connected in a mechanical way. <\/p>\n<p>Second, unlike copper and bronze clay, either the copper or the silver has to be fired first. They cannot be fired together as clay.<\/p>\n<p><em>2. Can it be done with silver and bronze?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>No. The piece is most likely to end up as an unrecognizable yellowish blob.<\/p>\n<p><em>3. What is the stone and how is it set?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It is a lab-grown green garnet, availbale from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gemresources.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.gemresources.com<\/a>. It was set while the texture was still wet, pressed down as far as possible below the surface.<\/p>\n<p><em>4. What is this texture?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  small aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1209\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-lid-texture.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-lid-texture.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"90\" height=\"90\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1209\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the lid of an orange juice carton. How did you make this texture?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  small aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1218\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-straw-texture1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t-straw-texture1.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"44\" height=\"109\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1218\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>By stamping the clay repeatedly with a coffee stirrer.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  small aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-1219\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/texturing-with-a-straw.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/texturing-with-a-straw.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"67\" height=\"96\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-1219\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>6. Why should the backing layer be made out of copper?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bronze clay shrinks more than copper clay. If the backing is made out of bronze clay, the flat piece is most likely to curve. When bronze clay is laid over copper clay, it &#8220;stretches&#8221; itself to the dimensions of the copper.<\/p>\n<p><em>7. Why dry the backing layer first?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Unlike with silver clay, cracks are most likely to form on the backing layer if it is not dried first. The cracks may show either before or after firing.<\/p>\n<p><em>8.
