The links in this watchband have a mokume-gane pattern. How did that happen? This is an &#8220;enhanced&#8221; version of the &#8220;multiple canes&#8221; technique described extensively in my book <em><a href=\"http:\/\/store.artinsilver.com\/cosopaofcoin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patterns of Color in Metal Clay<\/a><\/em>, pp. 39-49.<\/p>\n<p>The twist is that instead of the die with a circle hole, I used the tube adapter disc as a die.<\/p>\n<p>1. Make a stack of alternating circles, slightly smaller than 2&#8243; in diameter: 3 copper circles, 6 cards thick; 3 bronze (Quick-fire or Brilliant Bronze) circles, 3 cards thick; and 3 steel (any type), 1 card thick.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"frame-outer  aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6824\"><span><span><span><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/The-Stack.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/The-Stack-300x247.jpg\" alt=\"The stack\" title=\"The stack\" width=\"300\" height=\"247\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6824\" srcset=\"http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/The-Stack-300x247.jpg 300w, http:\/\/artinsilver.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/The-Stack.jpg 648w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>2. Unlike in the previous watchband, load the stack in the <a href=\"http:\/\/pmcconnection.com\/claymill-metal-clay-extruder-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ClayMill Extruder<\/a>  with the copper circle on top (close to the die). Extrude the stack. Place the cane on a warming plate and roll it back and forth until it is half dry. Then place it in a miter box (if you have one). Stick an eyelet at the top of each slice cut from the end of the cane to make a pair of earrings. Fill the cracks and dry again. Enlarge the side holes with a drill bit or a round file.<\/p>\n<p>16. Fire the slices and the earrings at mid-fire schedule.<\/p>\n<p>17.
